Our Leadership
Jesus said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the nations lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many." (Mark 10:42-45)
Rev. Dawn Baird is an Ordained Elder in the UMC Rio Texas Conference. Besides a nursing degree, she also holds a Bachelor of Christian Ministry Degree from Wayland Baptist University-San Antonio and a Master of Divinity Degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She has served in the Corredor de Esperanza in San Antonio (comprised of Aldersgate UMC, Highland Terrace UMC, Epworth UMC, Harlandale UMC and Nuevo Amanacer UMC which was birthed out of Aldersgate UMC), new church start Hope Arise UMC, Bulverde UMC, she planted a new church, Cimarron Praise UMC, in Converse, TX, and then served at Bracken UMC and Colonial Hills UMC. Pastor Dawn is married to David Baird and between them, they have five children and three bonus daughters (aka daughters-in-law): Justin and Jennifer Decker; Jason and Bernie Decker; James and Kristin Decker; Kelsey Baird and Joshua Baird. They also have six grandsons, Landon, Mason, Brennan, Carter, Hunter and Max; these grandsons own a huge part of her heart. Beware...Pastor Dawn warns everyone that she has lots of pictures of their grandsons and she loves to show them. Pastor Dawn and David also share their home with some very spoiled dogs. In her spare time, she loves to indulge her grandsons, trying her hand at gardening (her thumb is more brown than green unfortunately but hope springs eternal), wandering through antique/craft fairs, driving NASCAR race cars (again she has pictures), cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs (sorry Cowboys fans) and wandering around stores in an inflatable unicorn costume (the unicorn may make an appearance or two on the LUMC campus in the future). She gives God thanks every day for letting her be part of the ministries and missions at Lakehills UMC.
And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, so that my house may be filled.—Luke 14:21-23.
