God is already at work in the Hill Country

Posted on by Pam Elliot

Hill Country District Mission Strategy Synopsis
The Hill Country District (HCD) Mission Strategy Team presented our initial approach in Boerne on May 17th. The essence of the HCD strategy is that God is already at work in the Hill Country through the heartfelt efforts of United Methodists and other denominations.
Guiding Principle
In order to support all these good works, we have adopted Missio Dei as our basic guiding principle:
• Mission is movement from nature of God to world. The Church is the instrument for that mission.
• There is Church because of God’s mission, not because the Church defines itself or brings God.
Missio Dei aligns closely with every aspect of traditional and contemporary language regarding missions and strategies:
• Corporate Mission                                                     • Missio Dei
• Vision                                                                           • Biblical Witness
• Core Values                                                                 • Theology
• Strategic Areas of Focus                                           • Call to Ministry
• Strategic Goals                                                           • Discipleship
• Action Plans                                                               • Fruitfulness in ministry

Executing Missio Dei in the Hill Country
The HCD Strategy Team is proposing a three step process to initiate Missio Dei:
Step One: Listen – figure out what is going on. This involves reading, listening, discussing and asking others.
Step Two: Discern – understanding what it means. This involves prayer, analysis, scripture study and deciding what needs to be done or not done.
Step Three: Act – coordinating and acting on what has been learned. This involves communicating, empowerment and ensuring accountability for achievement.
It is expected that we will all grow and learn as we go, by observing and documenting best practices and incorporating new ideas. Further, it is expected that we will leverage the connectional nature of the Church to move fresh ideas along and to find common areas of interest and service.

Four Questions
In order to better understand exactly where God is working, the team has developed four questions to be answered by every member in every congregation. There is no right or wrong answer to these questions. We are simply seeking a wide range of views about the current activities of the United Methodist Church in the Hill Country.
Please direct your members’ attention to this survey and encourage them to join us in better understanding what God is about in our midst and through our efforts.
The questions can be found on-line at:

WE NEED FAMILY MENTORS.  We now have a team that does bulk pickup and delivers to the church around 11:00 am.  You can pick up your box then or again from 3:30-4:00 pm to deliver to those that need their boxes after 5:00 pm.  You only go to Boerne ONCE to adopt your family.  The rest of the time you just come to the church then deliver to the family.  We have 94 unassigned families in the system and several in the local area that need mentors.  Please be in prayer about supporting this wonderful missions outreach.  Pastor Ev will gladly answer any of your questions.
